FAQs
Who is the course for?
Rise Up is for any practising Catholic Year 10 + who lives, works, or studies in the Diocese of Westminster.
The Diocese includes all the boroughs north of the Thames and Hertfordshire. If you are not sure if you are in the Diocese of Westminster, simply get in contact with us.
How long are the sessions?
Our Wednesday evening sessions are online and last 1.5 hours.
The day workshops are 10am - 4pm at SPEC Retreat Centre, Pinner.
Your mentoring meeting will be online and a minimum of 1 hour per month.
What is a ‘sponsor’?
Your sponsor is someone from your local parish, school/university, chaplaincy etc. who will commit to praying for you throughout the course and who will help you to arrange the logistics of your 15-minute talk (completed at the end of the programme).
What is a ‘mentor’?
Every participant will be paired up with an adult mentor who will journey with you throughout the programme. All our mentors are DBS checked, they are practising Catholics, and hold some position of leadership in their profession.
What if I cannot afford the cost?
We have some funding available as we do not want cost to be a barrier to anyone applying. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss a bursary place.
I am still at school/uni, will I have time?
Yes. We have designed this course so that even those who are approaching their exam period will be able to take part. We hope that it will be a source of encouragement, growth in faith, and an opportunity to plan beyond exams.
What opportunity for work experience is there?
SPEC Retreat Centre have kindly offered to run work experience/volunteering for any participant on the Rise Up programme. This would support the Duke of Edinburgh Award, be a great addition to your CV/Personal Statement and would give you invaluable insight to how retreats are run.
My faith is important to me but I don’t plan to work in the Church, can I still join?
Absolutely. We will advertise various positions and roles within the Church but we also want to raise up authentically Catholic leaders who may go into a wide range of professions. We have mentors who work in healthcare, education, law…
