Francis in South America: Building Bridges on the Peripheries

From 5-12 July Pope Francis will visit Ecuador, Bolivia and Paraguay on an 8-day visit that is being spoken of one as one of the most significant of his papacy so far. What he is hoping to achieve? What will be the impact of his first apostolic visit to the region?

Jack Valero, who visited Bolivia in June to help to launch the 16th Catholic Voices group, will summarise the Pope’s upcoming trip and the events planned for each country. Their Excellencies Roberto Calzadilla Sarmiento and Miguel A. Solano-López C, the Bolivian and Paraguayan Ambassadors to the United Kingdom, will brief on Pope Francis’s visits to Bolivia and Paraguay. The discussion will be moderated by Austen Ivereigh, author of the papal biography The Great Reformer, who will give an overview of Francis’s ambitions for the continent and his longstanding connection with the countries he is visiting on this trip.
